Hazardous Materials Advisor Refresher Course
Five days of refresher training. We recommend that Hazardous Materials Advisors refresh at least every three years.
- For:
- Fire and rescue
Three weeks covering foundation knowledge, application and subject matter expertise for the Hazardous Materials Advisor role.

This comprehensive three-week course equips delegates with the knowledge and skills to perform the role of Hazardous Materials Advisor with confidence.
Delegates develop a systematic approach to all hazmat incidents, so that the required safety measures are in place and risks are minimised.
The training is practical, with useful techniques, methods and checklists. It also builds an understanding of the theory and current legislation, so that activities are evidenced correctly.
Exposure and contamination are key issues in hazmat work. The course includes an overview of the different Personal Protective Equipment in use, to build confidence in PPE selection and decontamination options. The handling of commonly encountered substances such as asbestos is also reviewed.
The course is structured so that delegates progress through each section, building skills and knowledge to deal with more complex scenarios as they advance.
The course is designed to prepare delegates to carry out the role and duties of a Hazardous Materials Advisor, drawing on national guidance on incidents involving hazardous materials. Whether a delegate is competent to act in the role remains a decision for their employing organisation.
